After crossing Mont Blanc Bridge, on our left, we find the beautiful English Garden situated right on the shores of Lake Geneva. With beautiful flower arrangements and gorgeous views all around, this is a must-see on any Geneva walking tour. Visiting the flower clock, even if only for a quick photo, is one of the most popular things to do in Geneva.

3. Water Jet

The Jet d'Eau fountain, one of the most famous things to do in Geneva.
At 140 meters high, the Water Jet is a must-see landmark on our self-guided Geneva walking tour.

Next, we come out of the English Garden and continue our self-guided Geneva walking tour to the famous Geneva Water Jet. Especially when turned on, the Geneva Water Jet shoots water up to 460 feet in the air making it one of the tallest water fountains in the world. The noise and the mist make it a very interesting experience in Geneva.

4. Geneva Old Town

Old Town is the historic heart of the city. While you can see the highlights in 30 minutes, I recommend spending more time here if you love medieval history. For a deeper look at the hidden alleys and specific landmarks, see my detailed Geneva Old Town walking tour.

Coming down the hill from old town Geneva, you will walk through Park des Bastions with the famous Wall of Reformers which highlights the close connection between the Protestant Reformation history and the city of Geneva. I love this peaceful city park with lush trees and walking paths. You can catch your breath and watch people play chess with very tall pieces.

From Park des Bastions I work my way down to the lake again through Place du Molard to the Geneve-Molard boat dock. From here I pick up a water taxi that takes me across the lake, on the other side of Mont Blanc Bridge at Genève-Pâquis boat dock. This short boat ride gives us gorgeous views of Geneva and helps us rest our feet after walking so much through old town.

Modern Things to Do in Geneva

I love walking along the shores of Lake Geneva. From beautiful views of the city to the gorgeous parks, walking along the lake takes you from Mont Blanc Bridge all the way through the Geneva Botanical Garden to the United Nations.

It’s a popular spot for both locals and tourists to take in the serene beauty of Lake Geneva and capture some memorable photos.

The Paquis Lighthouse is a pleasant 5-minute walk from the Geneve-Pacquis boat dock, along the lakeside. Look for the Bains des Pâquis nearby for a unique spot to relax and enjoy the lake. If you come in the summer, you can go for a swim in the lake and relax on the small public beach.

The park also houses the Museum of the History of Science, which is worth a visit if we’re interested in the development of scientific instruments. As you stroll along Lake Geneva, look for other imposing buildings housing different international organizations.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the Pacquis Lighthouse to Parc de la Perle du Lac.
