1. Antoine’s Cafe (French)
Antoine’s serves an amazing breakfast in San Clemente
Veronique Price worked in her family’s restaurants in France before moving to the United States. Once in the U.S, Price fell in love with American-style breakfasts. In 1991, Price opened Antoine’s Cafe in downtown San Clemente, placing a French twist on American breakfasts. Now run by Price’s son Antoine Price Jr, Antoine’s Cafe is among the best restaurants in San Clemente.
Antoine’s breakfast menu features many of the classics, including eggs, pancakes, burritos, tacos, and Benedicts. The French influence comes into play through scrambled egg filled breakfast crepes and French toast made with brioche bread. The most popular menu items are the Build Your Own Omelet and the Benedicts, particularly Antoine’s Benedict.
Antoine’s also serves lunch, with sandwiches, salads, soups, burgers, quesadillas, and tacos on the menu. Drawing on Veronique Price’s French background, Antoine’s lunch menu includes croque madame, nicoise salad, and sweet crepes. Takeout is available.
The small, cozy cafe, with a friendly, attentive staff, offers table, booth, counter, and outdoor dog-friendly seating. As Antoine’s Cafe serves the best breakfast in San Clemente, as voted by the readers of the San Clemente Times, expect a long wait for a table, especially on the weekends.

The fish and carne asada tacos are popular, as are the fish and shrimp burritos. Unusual taco offerings on the menu are fried chicken and potatoes.
