Northern Italy is home of most of Italy’s industry but it’s also home of some of the most beautiful mountain scenery as well. The Italian part of the Alps with the Dolomites mountain range gives the tourist unending scenery to delight in and plenty of space to relax. Barcis is a very small tourist village nestled at the foothills of the Dolomiti Friulane National Park on the shores of Lago di Barcis (Lake Barcis). Driving to Barcis will take you thorough some of the longest tunnels in Italy, but it will also give you beautiful and amazing natural beauty to behold.
My stop in Barcis at the foot of the Dolomites mountains is part of my 1 week tour of Northern Italy.

Barcis is a small mountain village, built on the shores of Lake Barcis (Lago di Barcis). It is located at the foothills of the Dolomites mountain range and it is far enough from the tourist madness that surrounds Venice, Italy. We were a little tired from our busy schedule in Northern Italy and decided to spend a day close to the mountains and away from the crowds. Being a new community, Barcis offers only natural beauty to the tourist. For historic and medieval villages, you would have to travel elsewhere. We spent the day walking around the lake and cooling our feet in the clear waters of Lake Barcis. This time the kids were happy too because we had enough time to let them play in a local playground and throw rocks in the lake.

Driving up towards the mountains in Northern Italy is a great experience! The closer you get to the mountains the windier the road gets. Barcis is a small tourist village nestled at the foothills of the Dolomiti Friulane national park. The Dolomites mountain range dominate the views and Lake Barcis (Lago di Barcis) completes the postcard perfect image of this small tourist village. The scenery at Barcis is simply gorgeous!
The mountains and hills are beautiful, but if you add Lake Barcis to the picture you get a postcard perfect view of the Italian Alps.

Is Barcis Worth Visiting?
As with any other tourist destination, it all depends on what you are expecting to see and do. If you are looking for old buildings and castles, Barcis is not the place for you. If you are looking for a quiet place that gives you beautiful mountain vistas, then you will like Barcis. We enjoyed our visit to Barcis, even though we had probably too much time to spare.
