Buellton, California - Ostriches eating vigurously at Ostrich Land in Buellton.Buellton is many times confused with Solvang, California. On the one hand, there is good reason for them to be confused simply because they are very close to one another. On the other hand, Solvang and Buellton are very different based on the tourist attractions they both offer. While Solvang provides great European architecture and feel while Buellton is a small California town right by the freeway. Regardless of the differences, Buellton makes a great rest stop if you’re driving on the 101 freeway and you want your family to take a break from driving. Read on to find out what to see in Buellton.

Buellton is a small California town in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley region known for its wineries and rolling hills. However, Buellton is essentially only a good road stop on the way to the quaint Solvang or the much larger Santa Barbara.

We stopped in Buellton a few times coming from Pismo Beach or on the way up north. The town is centered around the Andersen’s Restaurant famous for its pea soup.

We did enjoy a bowl of Pea Soup and a sandwich at Andersen’s but other than that there is not much else in Buellton.

On a more interesting note, our kids liked feeding the ostriches at the Ostrich Land farm which made our stop a lot more fun.

Is it worth visiting Buellton?

Visiting is a big word for Buellton. I would use stopping instead of visiting. Buellton is a good stop for lunch on your way to Santa Barbara. Also Buellton is a cheaper place to stay if you want to explore the wineries in the Santa Inez Valley and Solvang.
